Creation Justice Month

April is Creation Justice Month at Spirit of Peace! Join us as we learn from water and climate activists, celebrate our love of nature in worship, and come together with the greater Sioux Falls community to care for our environment.

Adult Forum

April 12 | 9 a.m.

Travis Entenman, executive director of Friends of the Big Sioux River, will join us in Adult Forum to share about FBSR’s work in restoring and ensuring the health of the Big Sioux River watershed, as well as what urban responsibility looks like to protect our water supply.

Just Flicks

April 17 | 7 p.m.

The film “2040” addresses practical solutions to environmental concerns with the hope that the filmmaker’s daughter, 21 years old in the year 2040, will face a hopeful future. Join us for the film’s viewing and discussion to follow.

Adult Forum

April 19 and 26 | 9 a.m.

We will view and discuss the keynote address given by Katharine Hayhoe at last year’s UCC Earth Day Summit. Katharine Hayhoe is one of the world’s leading climate scientists and the author of the popular book Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope.

Creation Justice Sunday

April 19| 10:30 a.m.

We will be celebrating Creation Justice Sunday with a special worship service! Please send us a photo of a favorite place in nature, plus a short description of what this place means to you and where it is. We will display them on the screen during worship, sharing with each other these places that are near and dear to our hearts. Please submit photos and captions/descriptions to Kim James by April 12.

Also, new Spirit of Peace reusable bags will be for sale! Proceeds from the bags will go toward replacing the trees that were taken down along Cliff Avenue.

Party for the Planet

Hosted by Friends of the Big Sioux River, Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium, and The Outdoor Campus

April 25 | 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Join us for Party for the Planet, a community event dedicated to making a positive impact on our local environment! We’re coming together to help clean up the Big Sioux River and promote healthier habitats in partnership with the Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium and The Outdoor Campus.

Event Activities

• Big Sioux River clean-up hosted by FBSR
• Book hike provided by Siouxland Libraries
• Vendor activities from local conservation groups
• Open house fishing provided by The Outdoor Campus

All ages welcome! Grab your friends, family, or coworkers and help us protect the Big Sioux River!
